Welcome to Encourage Empowerment
I am a National Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. In addition, I have training as a National Certified Trauma & Loss Specialist and Consultant through the National Institute of Trauma and Loss (TLC) and have completed the Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) training through the International Association of Trauma Professionals. In addition, I carry certifications in a Clinical Trauma Specialist Sex Trafficking and Exploitation, and a Certified Clinical Specialist with Trauma and Substance. I have additional certification in TFCBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and training in TRE (Trauma Release Exercises), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Level I), ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy; Basic Level I), SE (Somatic Experiencing), and NMT (Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics). I have over 21 years of clinical experience in forensically informed trauma specific treatment interventions with children and families who have experienced abuse and / or neglect in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition, I specialize in clarification and reunification with families who have experienced sexual abuse and subsequent disruption to the family system. I practice from client centered approach utilizing developmental play therapy, sensory based interventions, and mindfulness within the foundations of Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Developmental Model and a mind, body, spirit perspective. I have a passion for teaching, training, and supervising professionals as well as working with the “itty bitty” (children ages 4 to 7) as well as troubled adolescents with complex interpersonal developmental trauma.
From a programmatic perspective, I have been instrumental in victim services program development within multiple mental health agencies within Maricopa County. I am the author of PEAKS©, which is a psycho-educational group for parents who have children who have incurred trauma. I also co-authored the “Clinical Guidelines for Determining Appropriateness of Contact and/or Reunification in Sexual Abuse Cases Involving Child Victims and Juvenile Offenders”. Additionally, I have presented at state, national and international conferences including: the Arizona Child Abuse & Prevention Conference, the Arizona Public Defender’s Association Annual Statewide Conference, the National Conference on Child Abuse & Neglect, and the International Conference on Family Violence. I also am a former Associate Professor with the University of Phoenix.
In 2013, I expanded my private practice to a state licensed agency. I take pride in Encourage Empowerment’s clinical team and the services we are able to offer children and families.
I look forward to meeting you!
